The California Initiative...is it enough?
Last night, late, I was outside under an almost full moon. As I walked a quiet street in my neighborhood I realized that we have the best of all worlds here in America...but to get these things we are depleting the resources of Mother Earth.A little dramatic? Maybe...but consider it for a moment. We pollute, even me...I pollute, and though I take steps not to...I still do.
My truck is older than most, 1994----240,000 miles and not running well. POLUTION!!!
I like to say that I can't afford to fix it...and on the surface I can't. But it needs to be fixed or retired if I am going to do my part.
I do ride my bike to the store. Good for me and good for the atmosphere, though you wouldn't know it if it’s a hot day.
I also turn up my AC when I leave my house, and I turn off the power strips...so I consume less electricity and that helps me and the planet...
But we are not doing enough. California just enacted a law that in the next ten years will provide a reversing trend on air pollution for one of our most populated states...and if California can do it...why can't America as a nation?
When I write to our representatives they either don't answer or their answers tell me that they need to balance the jobs and economic questions against the improved environment questions...but under this Presidential Administration we find that we have not only stood still on improved environmental conditions in America (and therefore the world) but we have done much worse...we have removed the rules established over the past three decades so that our nation is polluting more than ever before...we are doing our part to make the Globe warmer and we have taken the position under Bush (George the Second) that it is ok...we can pollute if it is good for America.
It isn't ‘Good For America’...and George the Second needs to know that...and we need to take action individually ...and as a Nation.
So here is what we are going to do.
I am going to repair my 94 GMC so that it is not polluting...and each of you is going to write to your senators and congressmen and tell them that we need to match California on the national level. We need to make a difference and we need to do it now.
one step at a time we can save our planet for our children and grandchildren...and then we can make it better beyond that as well.
Do it now...it matters.
Thanks, Moon Shadow
