Where is Congress going ?
Hey, we may have elected Democrats to lead the House and Senate...but we are not seeing them push forward on Environmental issues. The truth is that our
Governors are doing a better job of sorting out the pollution issues today than either Congressional body, and they are being more
Presidential about it then the President.
Washington, Oregon, New Mexico and Colorado have all joined California in pushing the reduction of
GHG emissions on our West Coast and I believe that there will be more to follow. What we need however is a national policy that counts.
It is time, Mr President...and all of you in Congress...to take a meaningful stand on environmental issues...before your feet are getting wet from the melt down!
I wanted to take a moment and thank Al Gore and the entire team (“An Inconvenient Truth” (Paramount Classics and Participant Productions)A Lawrence Bender/Laurie David
Production Davis Guggenheim) again for their effort on behalf of our Planet and all of its people...we need to stop---watch---and listen to this message. Congratulations on your Oscar, two actually, and the recognition that you deserve for giving us the message.
I have had a great many discussions through this winter about the Greenhouse Effect and many of our friends don't understand that 12-foot snow falls in upstate NY are part of the change. Delayed snow fall, increased rain and snow in
some places and no rain and snow in others is all caused by the changing atmospheric currents that result from the
Effect.
The entire world is in danger and everyone needs to take steps to correct our polluting ways as best we can. The truth may be
inconvenient, yet it still holds ...it is a truth.
Now it is time for us to act before we loose the opportunity.
Taking steps to help "Green" the earth
I keep asking others to think about this site and to provide comments that will help to support our reduction of polution in the seas and our atmosphere.
When you think about it, the seas and oceans are just an extension of our atmosphere. They are all part of the fluid mass that envelopes our world, flowing in patterns that move around our planet.
So, what have you done in the past few months to help keep our world clean?
Leave a post telling us what you have done and what you would like to see others do.
Here are some of the things that cause Greenhouse Gases to be released
Fossil Fuel Combustion // Non-Energy Use of FuelsIron and Steel Production // Cement Manufacture
Waste Combustion // Ammonia Production and Urea Application
Lime Manufacture // Limestone and Dolomite Use
Natural Gas Flaring // Aluminum Production
Soda Ash Manufacture and Consumption // Petrochemical Production
Titanium Dioxide Production // Phosphoric Acid ProductionFerroalloys // Carbon Dioxide Consumption
Zinc Production // Lead ProductionSilicon Carbide Consumption // Land-Use Change and Forestry
Biomass Combustionb // CH4
Wastewater Treatment // Petroleum Systems
Human Sewage // Nitric AcidSubstitution of Ozone Depleting Substances // Landfills
Natural Gas Systems //Enteric FermentationCoal Mining // Manure Management
Silicon Carbide Production // International Bunker Fuels
Semiconductor Manufacture // Aluminum Production
Rice Cultivation // Petrochemical ProductionField Burning of Agricultural Residues // Abandoned Coal Mines
N2O // Agricultural Soil Management
Adipic Acid // N2O Product Usage
Waste Combustion // Electrical Transmission and DistributionMagnesium Production and Processing // HCFC-22 Production
If that is just part of them, and if some of them look like they are harmless...then you start to get the picture of just how big this issue really is...and with population growing we are going to have a lot of things to overcome.
So, is Mother Earth warming or not? Today the report on the environmental impact of global warming was released...
PARIS (AP) -- Scientists from 113 countries issued a landmark report Friday saying they have little doubt global warming is caused by man, and predicting that hotter temperatures and rises in sea level will ''continue for centuries'' no matter how much humans control their pollution... and it isn't pretty.
What it says is that we are at fault...but the Bush Administration has taken the position that the report will be an interesting resource...and I agree with that...but they have not indicated that they will do anything else but read and consider...
The oceans are warming and rising...so start bagging your sand now because when it comes time to fight the tide there will be very little time to get your dams built. And while you are preparing, call or write your Congress and tell them that we need to re-establish the EPA rules on
mileage and
emissions from automobiles and that we need to get industry to reduce their pollutions as well...it may take decades to
stabilize the Greenhouse Effect...but we have to start sometime, and now is that time.
The population is growing...
